Wow, it’s already the middle of summer! How did that happen? Have you done any fun activities this summer yet? Seems like only yesterday kids were in school and the busy days of spring were filled with endless tasks and schedules.

I have already taken one fun trip. Vacations are probably the best summer fun activity.

We had an amazing time in Park City, Utah. Check out my Park City post for a recap of our adventures.

We will be celebrating July 4th on Monday. Stay tuned for ideas on how you can have an explosion of a good time this year. (See what I did there?)

But back to your epic summer. You already know that summer has officially arrived, and it is almost July. Did you create a plan but are not exactly following it? Or maybe you are just bored with the whole thing. Well fear not, I’ve got you covered.

I’ve rounded up 5 fun activities that will keep you and those around you entertained for the rest of the summer. So, take a look and get inspired!

Be a Hometown Tourist – Plan Fun Activities to Tourist Attractions in Your Area

We tend to take the things around us for granted. How many times have you heard folks talk about something really amazing in your city that you have never experienced? This became real to me when I was visiting the Grand Canyon and ran across a young couple from New York City.

I have always been completely enamored with all that NYC represents, the crowds, the energy, Broadway, street vendors, etc., etc. and it was my number one dream destination at that point (I have since been there three times). I proceeded to tell the young couple all that I planned to see, when they gave me a strange look and said that they had never been to any of those attractions.

This got me thinking, what have I been missing in my own community?

As a result of asking this question, every year I research the latest best tourist things to do in my city and plan to visit one or two of them. This inspires and helps me to create new and fun activities and experiences that my family enjoys.

New things are always popping up so there is never a fear of running out of fun or interesting things to do. Following are some ways that you can create your own days of fun activities this summer in your hometown:

  • check out TripAdvisor – They have ideas and reviews to help you make the best decisions
  • contact your city’s convention and visitor’s bureau
  • google best things to do in your city
  • search best tourist attractions near you
  • drive or walk around and explore places that you have never been
  • last but not least, ask your friends for interesting places that they have been to or things that they have done

Start a New Hobby – A Plethora of Fun Activities

I am a hobby fanatic. In fact, I love everything creative, and I have probably tried most of the crafts out there. When we moved, my husband told me that I must pair down my hobbies to my five favorites. What a hard decision. I kind of tricked him by lumping two things together that used the same medium but are created in different ways.

I am currently in the process of designing my perfect craft room and cannot wait until everything is organized and in the same room.

If you don’t know or don’t have any idea what you like to do, starting a new hobby may be really hard. Following are ideas to help you home in on something that you might like to try.

Do you love taking pictures? Perhaps you could explore the craft of scrapbooking. Maybe you are interested in thread or yarn and needle crafts? There are lots of materials that you can buy locally or online and there are virtual classes if you don’t know where to start. Check out these sites:

If you are interested in woodworking, metal crafting, or other hobbies such as these, check out YouTube for information and training.

Reading is fun and a perfect summer activity. Without the constraints of hectic schedules, you can often get lost in a good story.

If you are interested in reading, visit your local library, or do an internet search of book clubs near you. Also check with friends and family, lots of times if they know that you are interested, they will invite you to their book club. I have been a part of two book clubs throughout my adult life and our meetings create some of the most interesting and intellectually stimulating conversations. I look forward to them every month.

If you have no idea of what to read check this post for a few suggestions.

By using the above suggestions I bet you can create many days filled with fun activities to get you through the last half of summer.

Visit a Festival – Fun Activities in the Air or on the Street

There are hundreds of festivals each year around the globe. All are very interesting and unique. If you do some searching, you are sure to find one near you. Here are some ideas of festivals that might be in your area:

  • Music Festivals

  • Lavender Festivals
  • Cherry Festivals
  • Dairy Days
  • Hot Air Balloon Festivals
  • Street Fairs
  • Art in the Park

Festivals are great any time of the year, but the warm weather makes them especially fun activities in the summer.

Hone Your Detective Skills with Fun Scavenger Hunt Activities

The Possibilities here are endless. You can create your own unique hunt or do an internet search for some fun ideas. There are also several websites dedicated to supplying fun filled scavenger hunts for the whole family. Occasionally you have to pay to participate, but these are usually hunts that are interesting, designed around a particular theme, or are not readily thought of. Get as crazy as you dare or create several scavenger fun activities for the littles to do at home. Either way you are sure to create hours, if not days of sleuthing and discovery.

Lazy Days With no Agenda – The Ultimate Fun Activity for Summer

The magic of summer is that it should be far more relaxed than the hectic and harried days of the rest of the seasons.

Build in a few days here and there where there is no agenda so you can explore possibilities spontaneously if you wish.

If you have a deck or backyard, spend some time just sitting and soaking up the sunshine. This a great way to spend some family time. Eat outside, play games outside, or just watch the kiddos as they run around screaming and yelling. All is allowed on a warm sunshiny day.

The fun activities I’ve listed are just a few of the possibilities for you this summer. What will you choose? Whether you want to explore your city, get active outdoors, or learn something new, there’s bound to be a fun activity out there for everyone. And don’t forget – spending time with friends and family is always a good way to enjoy summer time!

Don’t forget to tell me all about it when September rolls around. I can’t wait to hear how your summer went and which of these fun activity suggestions was your favorite. In the meantime, I wish you all the best as you enjoy the rest of your fun epic summer.
