I just returned from an epic Canada Alaska cruise and want to wish a Happy fall to all of you out there.

As we are heading into the crisp cool season of autumn, it is time to look back on your summer. What did you do? What were your favorite activities? What is something that you did not do but would have liked to have experienced?

With the holidays and the new year swiftly approaching, now is the time to start planning what you want to do for next year. I find that It is much easier to plan, if you look back on the last few months and figure out what you really liked, what you didn’t, and what your must-dos are for the future.

If you have read my earlier post on disappointment (you can read it here), you know that I had an epic cruise from Canada to Alaska planned for August. That was all derailed when me, my husband, and oldest son tested positive for COVID-19.

While that was extremely disappointing, in the end it all turned out very well. After gathering my thoughts and overcoming the sadness I was able to contact the cruise line and work with them on a rebooking.

Not only were we able to take the exact same cruise (just at a later date), but we were able to book it at a reduced rate because it was near the end of the season. (We still have cruise credits to use, so we will be embarking on another one in the near future. YAY!)

Now many of you (such as my youngest son) think that cruises are just vacations for the elderly. While it is true that many cruisers are in their retirement years, a cruise is a wonderful vacation for all ages. And when it comes to picking out a particular cruise to take, there are few destinations as breathtaking as Canada and Alaska.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable vacation, here are seven reasons why a Canada Alaska cruise should be at the top of you or your family’s list:

1

There’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for an adventure or simply want to relax and take in the stunning scenery, sailing on a Canada Alaska cruise will definitely satisfy.

The major draw of a Canada Alaska cruise is the pristine and majestic scenery that you will encounter along the way. You will spend several days viewing glaciers and wildlife while you are not in port.

In addition to taking in the beautiful surroundings, there are a myriad of activities with literally something for everyone to do. So, if you are not the type to sit for hours and stare at glaciers or the sea hoping to see wildlife, here is a sampling of activities that you can do while on board.

  • Eat – On our ship there were a combination of approximately 13 bars and restaurants that we could relax by ourselves or with friends and family for a meal or drink. Some of these were open around the clock.
  • Gamble – If you enjoy this kind of activity the casino on board is open when not in port.
  • Movies – There were at least two movies playing in various theatres around the ship each day.
  • Swim – Our ship had 4 pools, 4 hot tubs, plus a splash pool.
  • Play games or cards – The library on board was stocked with all different genres of books and games for all skill levels.
  • Play bingo – Every cruise I have ever been on offers multiple sessions of bingo.
  • Trivia contests – I loooove trivia, especially when it comes to music trivia. I think that I went to 90% of these events. I met new folks and had a fabulous time.
  • Learn line dancing.
  • Exercise – You can walk around the outer deck of the ship or visit the fitness center. In addition, there was a basketball court, shuffleboard on the top deck, and daily sessions of yoga.
  • Meet-ups – There were meet-ups for various groups where you could go and meet some new lifelong friends.
  • Presentations on nature and everything that Alaska had to offer.
  • Shop – You can shop for art, clothing, souvenirs, or jewelry in the many shops onboard.
  • Listen to live music – From jazz and classical to country or rock.
  • Nightly shows in the ships event theatre that range from Broadway type of events to comedian and magic shows.

It’s a great value. Unlike some other types of vacations, a cruise offers unbeatable bang for your buck. You get accommodations, most meals, and tons of activities all wrapped up into one price tag. There might be a charge for specialty restaurants and some shore excursions, but these are purely optional.

The scenery is spectacular. From glaciers to snow-capped mountains to dramatic coastlines, the views on a Canada Alaska cruise are unforgettable. We boarded the ship in Vancouver B.C. Canada. We flew in a day early so we could soak up the splendor if this beautiful city. We were not disappointed and cannot wait to return.

It’s kid-friendly. Cruising is an ideal family vacation – there’s something for everyone to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to make new friends onboard. Most ships have kid camps or areas just for the littles with activities geared to their specific ages. Some of these activities stretch into the late evening hours so that mom and dad can enjoy a relaxed night.

The ports of call are amazing. Every stop on a Canada Alaska cruise offers its own unique sights and experiences – from charming small towns to vibrant cities . . . plus an awful lot of wildlife! We went on a whale watching shore excursion and saw at least ten humpback whales. It was spectacular.

You can explore multiple destinations without ever having to unpack or repack your bags . . . bonus!

The beauty of a cruise is that you get to visit multiple places. When you are in port you can stay on the ship, disembark and go on a ship sponsored shore excursion, or just explore the port location on your own.

Then at the end of the day you get back on the ship, freshen up, go have dinner and then see a show. It is the best of both worlds.

A Canada Alaska cruise might be the best way to see both countries. With so much diversity packed into such a short distance, there’s arguably no better way to experience everything these two amazing countries have to offer than by cruising along their stunning coastlines.
